I am BEYOND excited to introduce my current project which celebrates OutKast's 20th anniversary. "Outkasted Conversations" is a moderated series that critically engages Outkast's body of work as a framework for thinking about contemporary black (popular) cultural expression. My first conversation is with writer and literary genius Kiese Laymon, author of Long Division and How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America. We discuss how OutKast fits within the southern black literary tradition, what it means to be Outkasted, and why radio mixtapes are an art form.
